Round magnetic pins

For the University of Silesia Song and Dance Ensemble we made round pins featuring a dancing woman and a print inspired by Silesian tradition.

The pins had a strong neodymium magnet clasp.

Technical details

Because of the nature of the design, we used a large pin format. The lettering running around the edge and the fine regional folk motifs would no longer be legible at standard pin dimensions. We used UV print on the pin’s surface.

Case study

Classic personalised pins with a new twist – how did we do it?

  1. Challenge

A multicoloured folk design and a costume that mustn’t be damaged

The ensemble’s emblem is a complex, multi-element composition: a dancing woman in folk costume, regional folk motifs in four colours and the ensemble’s full name running around the edge. Each of these elements had to stay legible on the pin.

Another challenge was the attachment. For a dance ensemble this matters, because folk costumes are expensive and have historical value, so the pin couldn’t damage the fabric.

  2. Solution

A personalised pin with UV print and a magnetic attachment

We made the pin with a diameter of 50 mm, larger than in our standard projects, to keep the name and decorative details legible. We applied the graphic with UV print, so the multicoloured folk design kept its vivid colours and crisp details.

Instead of a classic pin-back, we used a clasp based on a strong neodymium magnet. This lets the pin be worn on delicate fabrics without piercing them.

  3. Result

A pin that works on a folk costume too

Thanks to the magnetic attachment, the pin can be worn not only on everyday clothing or a jacket, but also on a folk costume, without piercing the precious fabric. This makes the personalised pin a practical product for the ensemble and, at the same time, a convenient carrier of its identity.

The motif itself also gained value beyond its organisational function. The folk design and regional character mean the pin works not only as an identifier but also as a decorative product promoting the ensemble and its identity.
